Minister: Russia to bid for football World Cup

Russia will bid to host the 2018 football World Cup, local media cited the state's sports and tourism minister as saying on Monday.
"We intend to take the first step soon and ask FIFA for the all necessary documents to apply to host the 2018 World Cup," Ria Novosti quoted Vitaly Mutko, who is also the president of the Russian Football Union.
The FIFA president Sepp Blatter said on Saturday that FIFA has 10 potential bidders for the right to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
For the first time FIFA will have a simultaneous bidding process for the two events, which will be awarded to the successful candidates in December 2010.
South Africa will host the 2010 World Cup and Brazil is due to stage the 2014 edition.
