The rescue team on midday Sunday suspended work to rescue a small plane in Manacapuru River, a tributary of the Amazon river in northwestern Brazil, after the plane crash killed at least 24 people.
　　The rescue work was interrupted by strong rain, after 24 corpses were retrieved from the river, while another four were rescued alive.
　　The plane, which is now five meters below the water, has not been taken out yet.
　　According to the Brazilian Civil Defense, the small aircraft owned by the Aerotaxi Manaus company was taking a one-hour flight from Coari to Manaos, capital of the state of Amazonas. On the plane were 18 victims from one family who were going to celebrate a birthday party.
　　The accident occurred around 15:00 p.m. local time on Saturday (1800GMT), when the pilot told the control tower in Manaos that it had problems and would return to Coari, then the contact was interrupted.
　　The accident was believed to have been caused by overweight, since the aircraft only had a capacity for 24 passengers.
　　According to Aeronautica airline, one of the engines stopped working and the pilot tried to land near the river, 500 meters away from the Manacapuru airport runway.
